 Perfumed and fruity at the same time, the barrique-aged 2016 Alto Adige Lagrein Riserva Furggl is a dark red wine with thick, blackish veins of concentrated color. The bouquet offers varietal aromas of red rose petal, dried cherry and chewy blackberry. The tannins are soft and caressing, and the wine is relatively creamy in texture with a point of bitterness on the close. Some 10,000 bottles were made.ML  (8/2018)

Fairly dark red-purple in color with aromas and flavors of blackberries, black plums and tea leaf. It is full-bodied and savory on the palate, almost Cote-Rotie like. I drink this wine with grilled meats, stews, sausages....very versatile. Great value.

Lagrein

- This lesser known red varietal grown in Italy's Trentino-Alto-Adige is said to be a cousin of Syrah. It's made into intensely deep red wines that are at once broad and elegant, and most often labeled Lagrein Dunkel or Lagrein Scuro. It's also occasionally made into a rosé -Lagrein Rosato - but these are rarely imported into the United States. Characterized by dark fruit, chocolaty undertones, fresh herbs and good acidity that complements the varietals more rustic tannins.
