2017 Four Graces Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

SKU #1412468 93 points Wine Spectator

Graceful and sleekly complex, with pretty cherry blossom aromas that open to poised raspberry, green tea and spice flavors that glide along the finish. Drink now through 2026. (TF) (3/2019)

Wine Enthusiast

Young and tightly wound, this has strong herbal sinews threading through tart red fruits. A light touch of cocoa powder dots the finish. It's an easy-drinking style that may be enjoyed immediately, but aeration/decanting is recommended to fully open it up. (PG) (6/2019)

K&L Notes

Winemaker's Notes: "The 2017 Pinot Noir showcases a beautiful ruby hue in the glass. Pleasant aromas of raspberry, Bing cherry and hints of earthy forest floor mingle. The palate exudes bright red fruit flavors of cherry and cranberry which are complemented by a focused mid palate of black pepper and light roasted coffee beans. The finish is crisp with a perfectly balanced acidity. The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Doe Ridge Estate vineyard and select sites throughout the Willamette Valley AVA. Doe Ridge encompasses 110 acres nestled in the Red Hills of Dundee. The Doe Ridge Estate, purchased and developed in 2005, is a 90-acre (planted) site and considered one of the most innovative new vineyards in the Willamette Valley. Additional fruit from Erratic Oaks, Hyland and Prince Hill make up the final blend. It was matured for 9 months in French oak, 15% new."

The nose has a wonderfully inviting mix of dark cherry, bramble, and earth. The palate follows up with subtle spices, raspberry notes, dark fruit, medium tannins and a good backbone of acidity. Very inviting and quite delicious. This keeps getting better the longer I have it open. Very well made!

Willamette Valley is a great place to look for stunning value in Pinot Noir. The grape thrives there and the wines typically have great balance and purity. However to find a wine of this caliber, at this price point is still pretty rare! Wine Spectator recognized that with their glowing 93 point review, and here at K&L we think they're right on the mark with this one. The wine shows a nice combination of dark cherry fruit, bramble, dried leaves, subtle fennel and savory spice. Bright and juicy on the palate with ample acidity to carry the flavors and make this wine very versatile with food. It's the real deal and at this price it's hard to beat.
