Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Ducs" (91BH, 91ST, 90JG). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A highly perfumed nose exhibits notes of rose petal, stone, underbrush and a hint of crushed green leaves. There is good richness yet excellent precision to the impressively intense and energetic flavors where the supporting tannins are still very firm. There is good power and focus to the ever-so-slightly dry finish that manages to avoid any suggestion of overt astringency. This isn't a Ducster of charm or finesse but I very much like the overall sense of depth. This could be enjoyed now with the appropriate foods though for my taste I would continue to cellar it for another few years first. Interestingly, I opened a bottle from my own storage recently and it displayed none of the dryness I mention in the above note nor was there any firmness to the finish. Bid on this bottle of 1998 Domaine Trapet Père & Fils Chambertin Grand Cru (92BH, 91VN). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "As good as the 99 Chambertin is, I slightly preferred the 98 for its better overall density and concentration. Blue, black and red hues together with explosive earthy fruit and huge, very intense, flavors. This is massively constructed and powerful with impressive density and a richness that ties the whole package together. Classic, old-style Chambertin as it should be." (01/2001)

Bid on this bottle of 1998 DRC Domaine de la Romanée Conti La Tâche Grand Cru (95BH, 93ST, 93W&S). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Like all of the '98 DRC reds, the clarity is a bit cloudy and not limpid though it does not seem to affect the purity of the aromas that now display some subtle secondary hints on the stunning nose of ripe red and black fruits, oriental spices, tea and leather notes. There is superb intensity to the dense, serious and strikingly complex flavors that are underpinned by ripe tannins and huge length on the balanced, mouth coating and impressively long finish. The personality here is muscular and bold with the ripe acidity framing the flavors and wonderfully focused finale. It's worth pointing out that while this is still on the way up, I was pleasantly surprised at how approachable the '98 LT was even though there is more development potential to realize. Multiple and consistent notes. Drink from 2018+." (04/2015)
