Bid on this bottle of 1982 Latour à Pomerol, Pomerol (95RP, 94JG, 93ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Latour-à-Pomerol vertical in London. The 1982 Latour-à-Pomerol has been a great wine for many years and this might well be the best that I have ever encountered. It has an exceptional bouquet that here is surprisingly youthful. It comes armed with black fruit, bay leaf, cedar and gravel, almost Left Bank in character. Further investigation yields an intriguing marine-like, seaweed scent that expands upon its engaging personality. The palate is medium-bodied with wonderful balance and fine tannin. It has melted a little since my last encounter, softened around the edges and yet there remains that core of intense black fruit and kirsch that will ensure that it continues to age for many years. The Moueix team made several immense wines in 1982 and this is one of them. Tasted December 2015. (NM)" (10/2016)

It has thrown off the backward, youthful style that existed during its first 25 years of life, and over the last 4-5 years has developed such secondary nuances as cedar and spice box. The creme de cassis, underlying floral note, full-bodied power, extraordinary purity, multilayered texture, and finish of over a minute are a showcase for what this Chateau accomplished in 1982. The wine is still amazingly youthful, vibrant, and pure. It appears capable of remaining fruity and vibrant in 2082! Thank God it is beginning to budge, as I would like to drink most of my supply before I kick the bucket. This is a great, still youthful wine, and, on occasion, one does understand the hierarchy of Bordeaux chateaux when you see the complexity and brilliance of this first-growth. (RP)" (06/2009)

While it's clear that the new owner, Catherine Pere-Verge, has made some amazing wines since 2005 (especially the 2008), the 1982 is a wine for the ages. Still an inky/purple color, it boasts an extraordinary perfume of spring flowers intermixed with black raspberries, truffles, and kirsch. Full-bodied with velvety tannins, the wine remains extremely young, but the sweetness of the tannins and the sensational fruit concentration make for a remarkable wine that should evolve for another 30+ years. Very aromatic, inviting nose of redcurrant, leather and tobacco. Intensely flavored and gripping, with a slightly raisiny singed plum character but also solid framing acidity that gives the wine a juicy quality. Quite fat and full. Bid on this bottle of 1982 L'Arrosée, St-Emilion (95RP, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This was tasted from magnum as it is the only format I have left in the cellar. Some noticeable bricking and amber at the edge are followed by stunning aromatics of loamy soil, underbrush, kirsch, and oak as well as floral undertones. There are no hard edges to be found in this silky wine, just plush notes of jammy black cherries, plums, figs, earth, and spice. Broad and full-bodied with fully melted tannins, good minerality, and a long finish, this is one of the finest l’Arrosees ever made. It has been mature for at least a decade, but shows no signs of falling apart. It will keep for at least another decade. (RP)" (06/2009)

It shows classic, even youthful notes of lead pencil, currants and saddle leather, was full-bodied, had beautiful depth of fruit, and a great, great finish, all pointing to a fully mature yet grand Saint Estephe. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A massive wine that is clearly of first-growth quality in this vintage, the 1982 Gruaud Larose remains a youngster. A broodingly dense, thick, unctuously textured, inky/plum/garnet/purple color offers up scents of beef blood, steak tartare, cassis, herbs, tobacco, and underbrush. One of the most concentrated wines of the vintage (as well as one of the most concentrated Bordeaux’s I have ever tasted), it is a huge, full-bodied, weighty, rich wine whose tannins are getting silkier and silkier. It appears set for another 30-40 years of life. This behemoth is a singularly profound example of Gruaud Larose that continues to justify its legendary status. Anticipated maturity: now-2050. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The few critics that Michel Rolland still has need to taste this wine to understand a wine that was fabulous to drink young, yet at age 27 continues to perform incredibly well. A classic Pomerol, it boasts a dark garnet color with only slight lightening at the edge as well as sensational aromas of creme brulee, chocolate-covered black cherries and currants, figs, and plums, full-bodied, powerful, rich flavors, and tremendous purity, opulence, and length. I thought this 1982 would be in its grave a decade ago, but it continues to show just what great balance and length can mean in Bordeaux. It should drink well for another 10 years." (06/2009)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Today, the fruit from this vineyard has been incorporated into the second wine of La Mission-Haut-Brion, so I hope readers do not forget how great many vintages of La Tour-Haut-Brion were. The superb 1982 ranks alongside their great 1949, 1955, 1959, 1961, and 1975. No wine since this 1982 ever achieved this level of quality. Its inky/purple hue is followed by classic aromas of scorched earth, plums, cassis, charcoal, and truffles, powerful, full-bodied flavors, superb concentration, and a boatload of tannin. The wine is so complex aromatically, and the attack is so impressive that I can’t resist drinking it. However, it should be even better in 5-8 years, and should last for another three decades. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1982 is still 5-8 years away from full maturity, but it exhibits a dense ruby/plum/garnet color to the rim as well as a sweet perfume of forest floor, spice box, cedar, and copious quantities of black fruits. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully pure with sweet tannins, this wine has aged more slowly than I initially expected. Decanter: "As with the last time I drank this wine two years ago, it is still full of life and energy, with that classic Lafite quality of effortless drinkability. Utterly moreish, it has an amazing cinnamon-edged spice, rich and slightly exotic with brick-red colouring. To recap what we all know to have been a great season, 1982 saw a dry and mild spring, allowing an excellent flowering followed by a dry and hot summer with regular small showers and fresher nights in August. It was an easy harvest that saw an early and large crop, and in the vat rooms they say, it smelt of hot fruit jam. Baron Eric's memories say it all: 'The last day of harvest was a Friday and we knew right away how good the fruit in the tanks was. Everyone was in a great mood, the whole harvest felt like fun.' Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1982 La Dominique has been fully mature for at least 15 years, but if stored in a cold cellar, it holds on to its beautiful fruit. There is a slight hint of prunes, along with licorice, herbs, jammy black cherry and cassis fruit as well as that subtle seaweed smell that I associate with nori, the wrapper used in sushi restaurants. Still full-bodied, complex, and tasty, it is ready for prime time consumption. (RP)" (06/2009)
