2014 Ramey Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

90 points Vinous: "The 2014 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast) offers good up front intensity in a mid-weight style that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Lemon confit, orchard fruit, chamomile and lightly oaked notes are laced into the silky finish. This is a very pretty, bright Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. (AG)" (03/2017) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is made from two exceptionally cool coastal sites: Platt, a single-vineyard in its own right; and Martinelli Charles Ranch Vineyard. The wine follows suit, allowing for a concentrated take on golden ap ...

2004 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir

95 points Wine Enthusiast: " Among California's First Growth Pinots, Hanzell's ‘04 is marked by a full-bodied, austere density that demands time in the cellar. It's a very dry, fairly tannic wine, rich in ripe crushed black cherry, red cherry candy, tobacco, cedar, and spicebox aromas and flavors that are impeccably balanced. Really defines the terroir of the estate, and should develop well. *Cellar Selection*" (02/2008) K&L Notes: Initial high-toned fruit aromas pass to darker fruits quickly and then to savory, complex characters, ending on a mineral ...

2009 Fort Ross "Fort Ross Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

93 points James Suckling: "Super nose of leather, chili, shiitake mushroom, and berries. Full-bodied, with wonderfully focused tannins and spices. So refined and pretty. Gorgeous." 90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Despite being located within splashing distance of the Pacific, the vineyards at Fort Ross sit high enough up in the coastal hills that they are able to give off wines that are both ripe and balanced. Here, the black cherry nature of the fruit is filled out by invitingly spicy nuances and hints of dried flowers." K&L Notes: From Fort Ross' moun ...

2008 Peay Vineyards "Pomarium" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated red. Redcurrant, cherry-cola, cocoa, potpourri and star anise on the nose. Velvety, layered and intense, with a seamless texture to the sweet red berry and exotic floral flavors. The fruit becomes spicier on the sharply focused, impressively long finish. Very sexy, and balanced to age. (ST)" (05/2010)

1995 Chateau St. Jean "Cinq Cépages" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Wine Spectator: "A bit pungent and earthy in the aroma, but well-structured, with ripe, firm, vibrant black cherry, mineral, red currant and wild berry flavors that are lively and intense, with a tight focus and a long, complex aftertaste. The wine impresses with its purity of flavors and youthfulness. Shows some tannins on the finish. (JL, Web-2005)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1995 Cinq Cepages is tasting even better than it was prior to bottling. The wine, which spends 2 years in 50% new oak barrels, is dominated by Cabern ...

2003 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir

Aromas of mountain strawberries and cherry are present, but this wine is far more complex than primary fruit. Over days, an opened bottle reveals intriguing layers. There is the venerable smell of the interior of an antique armoire, perhaps leather and tobacco too. At a certain point the wine shows an iron and mineral coldness that then passes to saffron and earthy depth. The fruit is persistent, but not dominant, as it changes from fresh ripe red fruits to hibiscus flower and tea flavors. The texture, although more supple than the previous vintage, is f ...

2002 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir

The minerality of crushed rock puts a boundary around the fruit, which is raspberry, black cherry and strawberry-rhubarb compote. It is a darker-toned wine than a typical Hanzell Pinot with exotic spice: black tea and caraway seed, tobacco, chocolate, and a little bit of black pepper. The tannins have good breadth across the palate and indicate the wine will have great longevity.

1996 Chateau St. Jean "Cinq Cépages" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Wine Spectator: "Few things in wine are as frustrating as experiencing difficulties with a great bottling that you’re long on. That’s been the case for me with the 1996 Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cépages, Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year in 1999. With a 95-point rating, 11,000 cases made and a $28 price tag, it was one of the easier picks we’ve made over the years. Since this Sonoma County wine was so delicious and readily available, I bought two cases so I could share the wine experience with friends as often as possible. For the first decade or s ...

2012 Pahlmeyer Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(14.9% alcohol; 90% new oak): Full, bright, green-tinged gold. Sexy lime leaf, tropical fruits and leesy hazelnut on the nose. Rich and energetic, with pineapple and citrus zest flavors complicated by sweet oak and underlying minerality. In a distinctly Burgundian style, finishing with very good lift and verve. This is consulting winemaker Bibiana Gonzalez Rave's first vintage here and she is in the process of reducing the use of new oak and lees stirring." (04/2014) 93 points Vinous: "The 201 ...

2007 Peay Vineyards "Scallop Shelf" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

95 points Wine & Spirits: "Scallop Shelf takes its name from the fossils found in the soil at this old fruit orchard, a vineyard site four miles from the Pacific. It's a blend of six clones, emphasizing the spicy red fruit character of the Pommard clone, which, when it hits on the far Sonoma Coast, makes some of the region's most distinctive Pinot Noirs. The wine is transparent in color and in its strawberry-like fruit, bright and intense against the smoky conifer minerality of the soil. There's a weave of energy to it, tart and brash as a young wine, gr ...

2007 Peay Vineyards "Les Titans" Estate Sonoma Coast Syrah

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky violet. Powerful aromas of crushed blackcurrant, violet, black pepper and olive. Lush and sappy, with deeply concentrated black and blue fruit and spice flavors energized by smoky minerality. Nothing thick or heavy about this wine, which packs a real punch. Finishes with enticing spicy lift and very good persistence. This should be even better with a bit of bottle age. " (06/2010)

2012 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Chardonnay Marcassin Vineyard, which will probably be released in a few months, displays great minerality, notes of honeysuckle, orange marmalade, poached pear, and white flowers as well as a touch of quince. A wine of great intensity, yet incredibly ethereal elegance, this light greenish gold-colored wine is full-bodied, stunningly rich, and altogether remarkable. When you consider that they use 100% new French oak and 100% heavy toast for both their Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, it is remarkable how li ...

In a distinctly vibrant style, with the sexy spice and red berry qualities following through in the mouth. Sappy and fine-grained wine, finishing on a suave note of candied flowers. This will be the last vintage for this wine. 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Very classy and elegant, the 2007 Peay Vineyards Syrah La Bruma sports captivating aromatics of raw beef, freshly cracked peppercorns, cedar, violets and underbrush, all wrapped around a vibrant core of beautiful, cool climate, Syrah fruit. Medium bodied, pure and focused on the palate, this has a brilliantly textured mid-palate, racy acidity, and a clean, long finish. Medium to full-bodied and well-made, if additional complexity and nuances emerge, it will merit an even higher score. Drink it over the next decade." Lively red and dark fruit flavors gain an exotic floral quality with air and become spicier on the back end. Impressively vibrant syrah, with excellent finishing clarity and sweet persistence. 1992 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1992 Les Pavots, reminiscent of a top-class St.-Julien/Pauillac, is the first vintage that has begun to exhibit some complex cedar, lead pencil, and cassis aromas. Medium to full-bodied, with impressive richness, this layered, intense yet balanced wine still needs another 2-3 years of cellaring, although it reveals more immediate charm and secondary aromas than its three younger siblings. It is a wine that will last for at least 20+ years. The blend for Peter Michael's Les Pavots proprietary red wine varies y ...

The 2008 began fermentation with native wild yeasts in open-top fermenters then transfered to barrel where it completed primary and secondary fermentation. 2006 Williams Selyem Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Even now, it will be better with fowl than with heavy meats. *One Star*" (06/2008) 90 points Vinous: "Deep red. The personality of these old Wente clones comes through loud and clear. 2010 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Chardonnay

94 points Wine & Spirits: "After his travels to Europe to implement the Marshall Plan, and later as Ambassador to Italy, James Zellerbach’s interest in Burgundy led him to plant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the hills above Sonoma in 1953. The vineyard, now expanded to 44 acres, rises from 430 to 820 feet. It still includes that original planting (six percent of this blend) and the current team, led by Bob Sessions and Michael McNeill, still hold to the idea that Chardonnay should be elegant and savory, an expression of its site (the average age of the vi ...
