Andrew Jones learned to make wine from the ground up. He started as a vine nursery fieldman, planting and planning vineyards for wineries all over California. This gave him firsthand knowledge of nearly every vineyard on the Central Coast and a knack for finding "diamonds in the rough." Meanwhile, he was building friendships with some great California growers, who'd often offer him small lots of their best grapes on the side. From these beginnings he has built a catalog of delicious, affordable wines that hum with personality.

95 points Vinous: "The 2016 Petite Sirah Palisades Vineyard is going to need a number of years before it starts to drink well. Inky, plush and concentrated to the core, the Palisades has a lot to offer. But it is also a wine for readers who can be patient and who love Petite. (AG)" (12/2018) K&L Notes: Winery Notes: "Dark as night, aromatically explosive and intense from start to finish, the 2016 Mending Wall Petite Syrah is everything one would want and hope for from the variety and vintage. Known for a being long term cellar candidate, the silky and ...

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Blackberry, blueberries, tar, toasted spice, and chocolate notes all emerge from the 2016 Petite Sirah (there’s 12% Syrah in the blend) and it's ripe and polished on the palate, with full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and a great finish." (10/2019) 93 points Vinous: "Dark purple. Deep-pitched, spice-tinged black and blue fruit, licorice, cola and mocha scents gain energy and pick up a smoky mineral quality as the wine opens up. Densely packed but surprisingly lively black currant, boysenberry and violet pastille flavors stretc...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Eaglepoint Ranch has been source to powerful red wines for many years, and here’s another one. It impressives for the volume of tannins and fruity ripeness. Swamps the mouth with blackberry and cherry marmalade, bacon, pepper spice and smoky oak flavors that are huge, yet balanced in tannins, oak and acidity. " (06/2011) K&L Notes: 93 points from Wine Enthusiast Magazine: "Eaglepoint Ranch has been source to powerful red wines for many years, and here’s another one. 95 points Vinous: "The 2018 Petite Sirah Tierra Theopolis Vineyard is a deep, powerful wine. Black cherry, black plum, black pepper, menthol, licorice and chocolate infuse the Petite with tons of complexity and nuance. This is such a gorgeous, captivating expression of Petite. In a word: superb! (AG)" (04/2020) 91-93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Last of the barrel samples, the 2018 Petite Sirah is another exceedingly elegant, seamless wine from Gordon’s estate vineyard. Deep purple-hued with notes of blueberries, California bay leaf, violets, and bouquet garni...

94 points James Suckling: "Crushed red and purple wildflowers, blueberries, cassis and leaves, all intermingled. This has a superbly juicy array of fresh and succulent dark plums and blackberries and delivers it all in effortlessly attractive mode. 94% petite sirah and 6% zinfandel. " (12/2019) 93 points Vinous: "The 2017 Petite Syrah Lytton Estate is another superb wine from Ridge's Lytton ranch. Inky dark fruit and expressive savory notes infuse this bombastic, heady Petite with tremendous nuance and surprising freshness. The 2017 is very young at th...

Durif is also known as Petite Sirah, making full-bodied, dense wines with ample tannin. Winemaker's Notes: "A velvety purple with ruby-red highlights, the 2016 vintage of Grand Durif features an abundant nose of dark plums and baked blueberries, woven with scents of lavender, white rose petals, sweet smoke and brown spice. Entry on the palate is smooth, yielding to a pop of rich, luxurious tannins that then sneak back, revealing lush fruit flavors of dark berry cobbler. What gives this wine its singular character are the tannins – strong yet supple, pron...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Petite Sirah has a wickedly opaque blue/purple color and a tight but promising nose of acacia flowers, blueberries and blackberries. In the mouth, it is still grapey, tasting more like a barrel sample than a finished wine. It shows surprisingly sweet tannins for a Petite Sirah but is actually very civilized. This wine should become more drinkable in 5 years and last for 20 or more. (RP)" (12/2010) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby. Pungent aromas of briary blackberry...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The enormously-endowed, inky/purple-colored 2005 Petite Sirah reveals notes of incense, spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, and a subtle touch of pepper. This massive red is surprisingly civilized and silky-textured. Although accessible, it should easily last for 15-20 years. (RP)" (12/2007) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby. Utterly primary aromas of crushed blackberry and kirsch Then almost surprisingly sweet and broad, with a nutty element complicating its powerful dark ...

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good saturated medium ruby. Aromas of crushed black fruits and rare steak. Densely packed, sweet and chewy, with terrific depth of flavor; the note of bloody rare steak carries through in the mouth. This outsized wine finishes with big, chewy, youthfully tough tannins that need aging. As young as this is, it's easier to taste today than the Merlot as there's considerably more material here. (ST)" (05/2009) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The blockbuster 2006 Petite Sirah Peterson Family V...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made from 100% Petite Sirah, the 2015 Petite Sirah York Creek was aged 14 months in 100% air-dried American oak, 15% new. It has a medium to deep ruby-purple color and opens with aromas of garrigue, dust, crushed blueberries, autumn leaves, underbrush and aniseed with touches of dark cherries, bitter chocolate and Earl Grey tea leaves. Full-bodied, it's rich, dense and bold in the mouth but surprisingly light on its feet, with a finely detailed tannic frame and just enough freshness to carry the long finish. (EB)...

Winemaker's Notes: "Despite being just one variety from one vineyard, this wine is made up of four separate fermentations of Petite Sirah from Contra Costa County. We experimented with varying amounts of whole cluster and a couple different levels of ripeness. This gave us a few tools that we could use to make an extra compelling Contra Costa Petite Sirah. This wine is light and layered and you can tell it is a different breed of Petite Sirah instantly. It is a soft, clear red in the glass and jumps out aromatically with juicy, red fruit, blackberries, a...

Winemaker's Notes: "One of the main elements that often gets forgotten about with Petite Sirah is that it is a grape that is loaded with natural energy. Due to the fact that it is often left on the vine until the sugars reach astronomical levels in order to maximize color and density, the natural acidity and freshness of the grape is generally lost along the way, many weeks before it even gets to the winery. This inaugural vintage of the Mountain Tides Wine Co. California Petite Sirah showcases the freshness and energy that is possible with Petite Sirah ...

91 points James Suckling: "A rich, flavorful red with blackberries, walnuts and a hint of coffee bean. Full body. Polished, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. " (11/2019) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a dark, brooding wine that's aged in Burgundian oak for 17 months. The blue and black fruit is lush and ample, built around a core of tannins and toasted oak that work well to accentuate without distraction. (VB)" (03/2020) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Petite Sirah Royal Punishers features notes of bake...

Dynamite Hill is Ridge's only Napa vineyard. Spring Mountain District is generally planted to Cabernet, and it's somewhat rare to see Petite Sirah grown there. This wine shows notes of blackberry, fennel, anise, with a hint of American oak. It's sexy and smooth, and will cellar for years.

Of the 2002 Turley "Hayne Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2002 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard (400 cases) represents the essence of this varietal. It is an intriguing, provocative effort boasting an inky/purple color as well as a sumptuous nose of graphite intermixed with melted licorice, espresso, chocolate, blackberries, blueberries, and concentrated creme de cassis. Pepper and flower-like aromas are also present, but no oak is noticeable in this massively extracted, phenomenally rich, shockingly well-balanced Petite Syrah. Its purity and palate impression are fantastic. (RP)" (12/2003)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1989 Ridge Vineyards "York Creek" Napa Valley Petite Sirah. From the winery: "York Creek vineyard is located on Spring Mountain, north of St. Helena, on the western edge of Napa Valley. Our only Napa Valley vineyard site, it is perched at an elevation of 1250 - 1800 feet above sea level amidst lush natural forest land. This is an area that has long been famous for its dark and intensely flavorful wines. Indeed, York Creek produces fruit with a purity of character that is at once distinctive and indicative of its mountainous pedigree."

Of the 2007 Turley "Estate" Napa Valley Petite Syrah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Turley’s Petite Syrahs are about as good as they get. The 2007 Petite Syrah Turley Estate is made from a clone that was taken from the Hayne Vineyard. It exhibits an inky/purple color as well as an extraordinary bouquet of incense, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, spring flowers, and wet stones. It is a dense, full-bodied, enormously endowed red that is best forgotten for 5-6 years, then drunk over the following three decades. (RP)" (12/2008)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Jeff Cohn Cellars "Sweetwater Springs Vineyard" Russian River Valley Petite Sirah (97JD, 94RP). Jeb Dunnuck: "An absolute blockbuster that excels on all accounts, the 2013 Petite Sirah Landy Sweetwater Springs Vineyard is one of the finest expressions of the variety I've tasted. Inky colored, rich, concentrated and unctuous, yet graceful, impeccably balanced and light on its feet, this full-bodied beauty offers up tons of cassis, graphite, sweet oak and licorice in its thrillingly pure, classic personality. It's already hard to resist, yet there's ample fine tannin, nicely integrated acidity and no shortage of length on the finish, all pointing towards the powerhouse beauty evolving gracefully for another two decades. Bravo Jeff!" (08/2017)

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Sean Thackrey "Sirius Eaglepoint Ranch" Mendocino Petite Sirah (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The idiosyncratic Sean Thackrey (a helluva winemaker regardless of vineyard sources or varietals) has changed his label (which I do not like as much as the original), but he is still turning out high class, nuanced, complex, singular wines. The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2002 Sirius Petite Sirah Eagle Point Ranch displays licorice, acacia flower, and black fruit aromas, medium to full body, excellent purity, and firm tannin. While not complex, it reveals plenty of depth as well as richness. Give it another 1-2 years in the bottle before drinking. (RP)" (06/2005)
Starting Bid: $30.00

Bid on this bottle of 2011 Ridge Vineyards "Lytton Estate" Dry Creek Valley Petite Sirah (94VN, 92ST, 92WS, 90WE). Vinous: "The 2011 Petite Sirah Lytton Estate is fabulous. There is plenty of varietal notes in the glass, but the mid-weight structure is classic Ridge. Dark cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and melted road tar are layered into the explosive finish. The 2011 need some time in the glass for some initially awkward notes to blow off, so readers should be prepared to give the wine quite a bit of air. (AG) 94+" (07/2013)
Starting Bid: $32.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Ridge Vineyards "York Creek" Napa County Petite Sirah (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Petite Sirah lovers will be delighted to hear that Ridge's 1990 York Creek Petite Sirah is a winner. Although backward and closed, it is hard to ignore its opaque purple color, and big, fleshy nose of licorice, cassis, and spicy oak. Full-bodied, with massively-concentrated flavors, this behemoth should be laid away for 4-5 years. As vertical tastings of Ridge York Creek Petite Sirah have proven, top vintages of this wine last for 18-25 years." (02/1994)
Starting Bid: $115.88

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2007 Ridge Vineyards "Dynamite Hill" Spring Mountain Petite Sirah. From the winemaker: "Crimson color in the glass.
