1983 Maison Charles Noellat Nuits St. Georges

Jasper Morris, MW writes: "The Noëllat tribe are abundant in this part of the Côte de Nuits. Two brothers, Charles and Ernest, flourished in the early part of the 20th century. Charles had a son, André, who died in 1941, and whose daughter Odile married Alain Hudelot, to form Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat in Vougeot. Domaine Charles Noëllat no longer exists since its purchase by Lalou Bize-Leroy in 1988."

2011 Domaine Jean Tardy Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Argillas"

90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A mildly toasty nose displays fresh and cool scents of red berries and earth plus a hint of game. There is excellent volume to the round middle weight flavors that are supported by fine-grained tannins that are firm but not rustic, all wrapped in an ever-so-slightly warm and slightly dry finish. This is pretty but it's not completely clear that it will harmonize in time." (01/2014) 90 points Vinous: "The 2011 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Argillas 1er Cru has a rounded, generous, fruit-driven bouquet with upfront raspber ...

2016 Domaine Jean Tardy Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Argillas" (bin soiled labels, some nicked labels)

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A markedly restrained nose grudgingly displays its earthy and even more sauvage-inflected aromas of dark currant and cherry that are trimmed in discreet wood nuances. There is excellent intensity to the obviously stony, muscular and tension-filled flavors that possess fine delineation on the youthfully austere, compact and tightly wound finish. Patience required." 2015 Domaine Jean Tardy Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Argillas"

90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A mildly toasty and softly reduced nose needs a through aeration so I would suggest decanting it first. Otherwise there is excellent density and punch to the brooding, intense and muscular flavors that exude evident minerality onto the presently linear, rustic and moderately austere finish where a touch of tar arises. As the description suggest, this is somewhat youthfully awkward and will require a few years to better harmonize but the underlying material appears to be sufficiently good that this should ultimately c ...

2014 Domaine Jean Tardy Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Argillas"

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is earthier still with its ripe yet cool and pure nose of red currant, floral and leather scents. There is good volume and excellent intensity to the tautly muscular and notably stony medium weight flavors that display more than a touch of rusticity on the impressively persistent finish. This is very Nuits in basic character but not especially austere or inelegant. This too is well-worth checking out." (01/2017)

This well-balanced effort should require 10 years or so of cellar time before it reaches its apogee. *Outstanding*" (01/2013) Jancis Robinson: "Fragrant and inviting. 2012 Domaine Jean Tardy Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Argillas"

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Aux Argillats from Jean Tardy has a very composed bouquet with plenty of dark cherry and raspberry fruit and pastille-like purity. This displays fine intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine, supple tannin. It comes across as so elegant and smooth in texture with just a faint touch of cooked meat on the very satisfying finish. 91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here the expressive and very earthy nose exhibits cool and airy aromas of pomegranate, plum and pretty floral aromas that are trimmed in notes of wood. There is a lovely minerality suffusing the punchy and delineated medium-bodied flavors that possess a firm tannic spine that shapes the complex, persistent and only mildly rustic finale where a hint of bitter cherry surfaces. The rich, full-bodied, naturally sweet and lightly mineral-suffused flavors possess good freshness and a seductive texture before culminating in an impressively complex, driving and palate staining finish. 2007 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Vaucrains"

93 points John Gilman: "Not surprisingly, the 2007 Domaine Gouges Vaucrains is one of the more structured examples of the vintage, but it shows all of the inherent purity of this year in the Côte d’Or and is going to be an excellent wine with a bit more bottle age. The bouquet offers up a fine constellation of red and black cherries, nutskin, venison, coffee, fresh herb tones, forest floor, a nice touch of botanicals and a topnote of charred wood. On the palate the wine is pure, full- bodied, complex and really rock solid at the core for an ’07, with mod ...

On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure, with a rock solid core of sappy fruit, fine-grained, but substantial tannins, zesty acidity and brilliant length and grip on the pure and transparent finish. The youthfully complex nose wafts from the glass in a potentially sappy blend of cassis, sweet dark berries, espresso, gamebirds, bitter chocolate, a hint of the sous bois to come and a smoky topnote. This is very 2013 in style with a mild acid tang yet I like the overall delivery and this should reward extended keeping. In a word, lovely." The palate is very intense and with great body and presence. Supple tannins make an immediate impression however, it is the weight of the fruit that really comes across with a dash of white pepper on the long peacock’s tail finish. Of course this is a wine with no makeup, and its natural beauty will decade at least a decade of cellaring before it fully comes into view. I have to say that the quality of the terroir comes through on the nose: beautifully defined, mineral-driven, hints of sous-bois underneath the black fruit. Vinous: "Inviting scents of plum and truffle come across as fresh for a 15-year-old bottle. Not hugely fleshy but still plump in the middle in the context of the vintage--and more primary than a majority of the wines I tasted for this report. Plum and spice flavors dominate today and carry well on the finish, where the firm tannins arrive late to dust the palate. In a very lively style, this premier cru can be enjoyed now but barely tastes like a mature wine. For his part, Bertrand Chevillon pointed out that the 2001s were hard to taste at the beginning but have rounded out. (ST)" (04/2017)
