2013 Markovitis Xinomavro Naoussa Greece
Review Date: 01-18-2020
Markos Markovitis Winery for those in the know is the famed Chateau Pegasus. The name was changed recently to reflect the family that has been tending these vineyards in Polla Nera in Northern Greece for decades. Along with the name change, the then-named Chateau was also the first organically farmed vineyard in Greece. This Xinomavro has a robust nose when it is first opened, so allow time for it to breathe. Once it opens up red berries such a redcurrant, rosehip and hibiscus tea leap from the glass. Med acidity rolls on the tongue and a lightly tannic, textural feel of fortune plums and friar plums grip on the side of the cheeks.

2018 Pheasant's Tears Mtsvane "Bodbiskhevi" Kakheti Republic of Georgia
Review Date: 01-15-2020
Pheasant’s Tears Mtsvane is a precise introduction to this ancient Georgian varietal. The nose has a vibrant freshly made apple compote and apple sauce resemblance, almost like you are right there, opening a fresh jar. The spices are very exotic; they fall under Chinese five-spice in the lead, then following is a fresh whiff of white chalk-like soil in the background. This wine is dry but not excessively flamboyant in flavor or oxidation. It is just really wonderful, with apple and pear flavors, and grip from the extended grape skin contact. Just straight yumminess in a glass.

2018 Archil Guniava "Skin Contact" Krakhuna Republic of Georgia
Review Date: 01-15-2020
This Archil skin contact is an exceptional candidate for aging. There are notes of savory, salty, bruised pear/apple/apricot—all the stone fruits and tree fruit notes on the nose in this bottling. Slightly oxidative, but not outrageous at all. The palate has peach flesh and Mirabelle plum skin tannin. This comes across as a very giving wine, with a pleasurable sense of satisfaction in every sip.

2018 Natenadze Wines "Meskhuri" Red Meskheti Republic of Georgia
Review Date: 01-15-2020
This wine is SPECTACULAR!!! Such an approachable wine with notes of cherry cola, cherry syrup, cherry everything, and also Indian black tea, from Assam and mocha. If you are a big fan of Cru Beaujolais (Morgon), you'll really love this wine. Gamay-ish with a limestone backbone. Tannins and grip. A lovely bottle of wine that's super approachable and relatable.

2018 Archil Guniava Tsitska-Tsolikouri-Krakuna Republic of Georgia
Review Date: 01-14-2020
Archil Krakhuna is raw wine at its best. Super approachable for those that are new to amber wines. Candied orange slices, with a touch of sweetness slight grippy texture, pleasant and fresh. There's grip and length in this wine that shows the complexity of this varietal. This version is the cleaner of the two and very parable with curries and lean seafood dishes.

2016 Solomon Hills Estate Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay
Review Date: 01-06-2020
There is no vagueness that this is a cool climate chardonnay that is reminiscent of old-world chardonnay. Right off the bat, there is a noticeable aroma of sea salt and kelp, followed by cortland apples, golden delicious apples, seckel pears, and pepo. There is a clear edge of minerality, flintiness and wet stones on the palate that I find to be a positive attribute in this wine. This is very enjoyable and dry, definitely the other side of the coin when it comes to California chardonnay.

2015 Cristom "Estate" Eola-Amity Hills Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
Review Date: 12-20-2019
This all estate fruit sourced from 4 distinguishing vineyard sites is a perfect intro into the style of Cristom, a benchmark Oregon pinot noir producer. The guide on the nose is a thin vein of dark chocolate, raspberry jam, douglas fir, and Keemun tea. On the palate reveals tayberries, chocolate-covered espresso beans, baking spices finishing with underscores of wet rock and buoyant acidity. The versatility in this wine shows it can pair with a variety of cuisines, so feel free to explore with no limitations because this is a fantastic value-for-quality wine.

2016 La Fortuna "Magnus" Sant'Antimo Rosso
Review Date: 12-03-2019
La Fortuna's Magus is extraordinary! There is a pleasurable intensity about this wine that is just fantastic. On the palate, there's ripe figs, raspberries, and dark cherries. In the finish, spices like cinnamon and nutmeg linger, but the tannins are firm and velvety. There's vigor, length, and freshness in this version.

2018 Peter Zemmer Pinot Bianco Alto Adige
Review Date: 11-30-2019
Review 11/30/19 This Pinot Bianco has more staying power than any I've tasted in a while. This wine shows its growing site of complex soils, mainly limestone with some clay in its character. But because of its high elevation there's a bit of restraint in ripe fruit. Mostly fleshy just barley ripened peach, Bosc/Bartlett pears there is a whisper of fresh sweet pea pods and spearmint that shows through and through. This is a balanced wine that deserves all your attention when enjoying it. Savor the flavors and pay attention to how it evolves, you will not be disappointed with this one.

Fred Jerbis Italian Gin (750ml)
Review Date: 11-26-2019
This is by far one of my favorite gins. Fred Jerbis has not only created a stunningly aromatic gin, it is also has a profound mouthfeel that's not like any other I've ever tried. You absolutely get orange blossoms, saffron, mint, thyme, then lingering juniper berries and rowan berries. This finishes with a tad bit of sweetness that is natural. This is a perfect sipping gin. But if you must, a tonic or soda water is also a great complement to round out the flavors.

2018 Gianni Gagliardo "Fallegro" Roero
Review Date: 11-24-2019
This sipper is a conversation starter indeed. There is so much here that resembles fleshly stone fruit like apriums and white peaches. There is a lovely fizzy feel on the palate that slightly tickles and dances, it is quite enjoyable. There is a fair amount of bright acidity that sparkes the appetite for creamy cheese and fried shellfish such as fritto misto di mare! This fun and food-friendly is worth the try.

2017 Torti Pinot Noir Pavia
Review Date: 11-24-2019
A very intense nose of dried cherries, cranberries, and dried hibiscus petals makes this wine's aroma so attractive. The body is light, but don't let that fool you, there is a slight grape skin grip that tugs at the bottom lip and speaks to you to pair it with starches like risotto or veal scallopini with mushrooms. Set at a very attractive price, this wine is a no brainer to bring to any party.

2017 Lúuma (AKA Wine Co.) Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Review Date: 09-03-2019
This is a clean and focused style of Chardonnay with a light citrus and stone fruit note in the finish. On the nose a bit of white flower and almond shells. I love the mouthfeel and body from this wine, it is medium-bodied and not overly aggressive or too lush, plus the acidity is just perfect. The palate is clean with a hit of citrus and stone fruits. If you are a mostly French Chardonnay drinker, this is that version but domestic with 80% in stainless, 20% oak, with 10% being new, and 15% malolactic fermentation. This is the perfect wine if you want freshness and complexity.
